Rathnakara Shetty, MA (Economics)

Rathnakara Shetty, MA (Economics), currently serves as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Karnataka State Police.

With 32 years of dedicated service as a law enforcement police officer, he has excelled as Station House Officer (SHO) at prime police stations of Bengaluru district and city, including Anekal, Bannerghatta, Attibele, Hebbagodi, Nelamangala, Crime Branch Bengaluru City, Cubbon Park, Sampige Halli, Amruthahalli, and Internal Security Division. He also contributed to city and state intelligence wings in preventing and detection of crime in Bengaluru city, Greater Bengaluru Authority awarded him KempeGowda state award for safeguarding Greater Bengaluru.

Rathnakara Shetty: Gold Medalist & Academic Excellence Alumnus of of Mangaluru University and Sri Mahaveer College Moodabidri

Rathnakara Shetty, a proud Gold Medalist and academic distinction alumnus of Sri Mahaveer College, Moodabidri is featured in the college magazine published by Manipal Academy of General Education during its Diamond Jubilee Celebration 2026 and sir received convocation post gradation in Economics  from Mangala Gangothri, Mangaluru University.

Hailing from Eliyanadugodu Village, Bantwal Taluk, Mangaluru District, Mr. Shetty completed his primary to postgraduate education across esteemed institutes in undivided South Canara District of coastal Karnataka. Shaped by the rugged Western Ghats foothills and the inland Arabian Sea environment, he developed exceptional physical and mental resilience from childhood, excelling in sports, games, and academics.

Rathnakar Shetty: NCC Leader, History Enthusiast & Economics Lecturer at Sri Mahaveer College

During college, Rathnakar Shetty joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) as a Cadet, rising to Sergeant and Cadet Under Officer. He participated in numerous camps and parades, earning multiple certifications .

As an extracurricular pursuit, Rathnakar immersed himself in ancient and medieval Karnataka history, mastering inscription reading for deeper cultural insights.

Committed to personality development, he competed in various events, honing leadership skills.

Rathnakara Shetty pursued postgraduate studies in Economics at Mangala Gangothri University. Launching his career, he joined Sri Mahaveer College, Moodabidri, as an Economics Lecturer.

As Station House Officer in Bengaluru, Rathnakar Shetty tackled high-profile cases, protected vulnerable communities, and curbed organized crime in the 1990s–2000s. Highlights include

Anekal Police Station (Anekal Taluk)

  • Reserve constituency hub for downtrodden, backward, and labor class advocacy.

  • Solved infamous C.D. Hosakote student kidnap & murder case (late 1990s): Detected abduction, brutal murder and evidence destruction; arrested and got convicted all accused.

Bannerghatta Police Station (Anekal Taluk)

  • Controlled mining mafia, illegal stone crushing, gambling, and prostitution rackets via hundreds of raids; restored hundreds of hectares of Bannerghatta National Park forest land from encrochers by assisting to Forest Officials.

  • Cracked Mantapa village serial teenage girl kidnap, rape & murder case (NCRB-published "Mystery of Corck"): Traced clues from murder sites, arrested serial offender  and got him convicted.

  • Detected Kalkere child kidnap & murder: West Bengal youth avenged shelter refusal by his nephews and killed 3-year-old cousin; get arrested him in Midnapur West Bengal.

Attibele Police Station (Anekal Taluk)

  • Managed Law & Order Tamil Nadu border; vulnerabilities of reserver consituency, industrial unrest, controlled spurious liquor mafia and sandalwood smuggling (early 2000s); seized crores worth via hundreds of raids.

  • Solved Karpur Village minor girl rape & murder: Exhumed body, reconstructed evidence, arrested accused.

Hebbagodi Police Station (Anekal Taluk)

  • Supported bommasandra industrial area, Electronic City hubs (Infosys, Wipro etc...) covered by village/nagar sabha areas; handled VIP bandobust for international heads of  various countries.

  • Enhanced Bengaluru-Chennai NH safety: Introduced median gardening with ELCIA to reduce headlight glare accidents on two-wheelers.

Rathnakar Shetty: DG & IGP Appreciation/ Reward, CM Gold Medal, Kempe Gowda Award (BBMP) for Landmark Bengaluru Crime Detections

Rathnakar Shetty earned DG & IGP Karnataka reward/appreciation for detecting a high volume of criminal cases across Bengaluru City and various Police Stations of Bengaluru District. His leadership also garnered honors from two Karnataka Cabinet Ministers, Senior Police officials, State Bank of India, and the Karnataka Chief Minister's Gold Medal & Kempegowda Award.

Nelamangala Police Station (Early 2000s)

  • Managed state's one of the largest Police Station jurisdiction amid heavy traffic and highest number of cognizable/non-cognizable cases.

  • Oversaw Golden Triangle corridor completion and inauguration.: zero tolerance for organized crime, achieving top detection rates.

  • Cracked State Bank of Mysuru Madhavara branch dacoity: Dacoits fired on cashier, hijacked cash van on National Highway along with employees; detected the case within 48 hours, recovered full cash, arrested all accused with weapon. Honored by ministers and SBI.
     

Crime Branch Bengaluru City Police Inspector

  • Led Syed Narsu encounter (Anekal, 2005): Notorious rapist, kidnaper of 20+ live band artists and BPO employee robbery gang leader. Tracked his hideout; in exchange of fire, Narsu killed, Shetty sir injured on neck by machetes.
     

Cubbon Park Police Station (Heritage P.S. since 1904)

  • Handled high-profile cases of Central Bussiness District, agitations (Gandhi Statue) and law-order challenges with precise criminal registrations and detections of cases.
     

Sampigehalli Police Station (Newly Created)

  • Tamed anti-social elements in remote nagar sabha areas via registration and detection of hundreds of suo-motto cases and raids despite counter-attacks.

  • Seized crores worth of property; unearthed and arrested undergrounded criminals.

  • Key detections: Fake passport/visa racket (CBI convicted all); minor kids kidnap, amputation and conversion to Unux for begging (rescued boys, reconstructive surgery, reunited with parents).
     

Amruthahalli Police Station (Central Business District/Special Economic Zone)

  • Countered white-collar crimes and interstate gangs exploiting institutions; neutralized convicted criminals' henchmen via raids.

Rathnakar Shetty, Deputy Superintendent of Police and as a Station House officer of Internal Security Division Bengaluru: ISD police station, with the specific vision of prevention and detection of unlawful activities established immediately after Mumbai terror attack. As a station house officer several cases were registered and investigated by him. Actively participated in Naxal free Karnataka drive of the government and cases were investigated. Dozens of naxals were interrogated and undetected cases were traced and investigation finalized.
